TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iranian foreign minister’s special assistant for political affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, and UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura held talks on the latest efforts to politically resolve the protracted war in the Arab country.
Jaberi Ansari and de Mistura met on the sidelines of the 10th International Conference on Syrian Peace in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on Monday.
They exchanged views about the political process for ending the Syrian crisis, the Syrian constitutional committee and the humanitarian efforts, especially the return of refugees to the Arab country.
The session came as representatives of Iran, Russia, and Turkey on Monday kicked off two days of talks on issues related to the war in Syria.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the officials would discuss matters including the formation of a Syrian constitutional committee, the de-escalation zones established in Syria, and humanitarian issues at the July 30-31 talks.
The Russian delegation is headed by Russia's Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin. The Iranian and Turkish delegations are led by deputy foreign ministers Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Sedat Onal respectively.
De Mistura and delegates from Jordan act as observers. UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi has also been invited to the meeting.
