NEW YORK, Dec. 10 (Press Shia) – The largest package of humanitarian assistance was provided to needy residents of the Iraqi city of Mosul, UN Secretary-General deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said at a briefing on Friday.
The humanitarian aid is expected to suit basic needs of over 42,000 people besieged in eastern Mosul.
Haq explained that for the first time in more than two weeks, the security conditions allowed UN humanitarian agencies to access needy individuals and families in eastern Mosul.
An operation by the Iraqi forces and Kurdish Peshmerga to retake Mosul from ISIL terror group has been ongoing since October 17. The offensive is backed by the US-led coalition against ISIL.
