TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani deplored Washington’s hostilities against Tehran and said the Islamic Republic will counter all threats and defeat the US government in the economic war it has launched against the country.

In a speech on Tuesday evening, Shamkhani pointed to recent remarks by US National Security Adviser John Bolton and said the American official has urged Iran to take the US seriously.

“Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh took you seriously when he landed missiles three miles away from you (US forces in Syria),” he added.

“What are Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) and (other) terrorist groups doing just three miles away from you?” Shamkhani wondered.

Elsewhere, the security official pointed to economic threats posed by Washington against Tehran and said Iran will defeat the US “villains” and the current US administration in the area of economy.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), and announced plans for new sanctions against Tehran.

The White House has also announced plans to get as many countries as possible down to zero Iranian oil imports and launch a campaign of “maximum economic and diplomatic pressure” on Iran.

Last week, Bolton had warned Iran over any move against its forces in Syria, saying “I might imagine they would take me seriously when I assure them today that if you cross us, our allies or our partners, if you harm our citizens, if you continue to lie, cheat and deceive. Yes, there will indeed be hell to pay.”

On Monday morning, the IRGC Aerospace Force fired six mid-range ballistic missiles at the bases of Takfiri terrorists in an area east of the Euphrates in Syria in retaliation for a terrorist attack in Iran’s southwestern city of Ahvaz last week.

Following the missile strike, the IRGC flew seven combat drones and bombed the positions and strongholds used for accommodating and supporting the terrorists.

During a military parade in Ahvaz on September 22, Takfiri militants launched an attack, killing 25 people and injuring more than 60 others, including women and children.

Following the terrorist act, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said the attack in Ahvaz was the continuation of plots hatched by US stooges in the region to create insecurity in the country, adding that Iran’s intelligence services must swiftly find the accomplices of the "criminals” behind the attack and put them on trial.
