NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (Press Shia) – UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, will make his annual request for funds for the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), a mechanism that is aimed at alleviating suffering caused by conflicts and disasters.

The diplomat will demand $1 billion USD at a high-level conference on the Fund established in 2006, an unprecedented amount of money, because since its foundation, the request has been maintained at $450 million USD per year.
Although humanitarian aid needs have quadrupled in the last decade, the requested financial resources from the international community have remained unchanged year after year, the Secretary-General’s Spokesperson’s Office said on Monday.
About 130 million people have required assistance in the past few years as a result of the impact of wars and natural disasters, a scenario never seen before since World War II (1939-1945), the UN stated.
According to the organization, this explains the increase requested by Ban for 2018.
