TEHRAN, Dec. 15 (Press Shia Agency) – Foreign Ministry spokesperson has hailed Kenyan government and judiciary for their good will in release of two Iranian lawyers detained on charges of terrorism.
Mr. Bahram Ghasemi wrote in a Telegram account of the Foreign Ministry on Thursday that two Iranian lawyers detained by Kenyan anti-terrorist police have been released; “right from the onset, Foreign Ministry entered diplomatic contacts to protect Iranian citizens as its inherent duty and exhausted all diplomatic capabilities to have Iranian lawyers released,” the Telegram account posted.
“Iran’s Consulate in Nairobi established a group of local professional lawyers to address the situation immediately after arrest; even Mr. Hassan Ghashghavi, Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates’ Affairs, departed for Kenya to negotiate with Kenyan officials the unconditional release of the Iranian lawyers,” Ghasemi said in the message. “Finally, two Iranian lawyers, Abdolhossein Safaei and Nasrollah Ebrahimi were released from detention; they had been interrogated by Kenyan police during his mission; now the misunderstanding was resolved and they had been released.
On Thursday, December 1, lawyers were returning from meeting of a client in Nairobi when were accosted by police, reportedly by intervention of Zionist regime.
