TEHRAN (Press Shia) – In a message in commemoration of Arbaeen, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the message of the mass of people attending the Arbaeen congregation in Iraq’s Karbala is that “no tyrant will ever end the struggle for justice.”
In a post in his Twitter account on Monday evening, Zarif hailed the high turnout of people in the Arbaeen procession, which comes forty days after the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shiite Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).
“14 centuries ago a tyrant believed he had eradicated Imam Hussein's resistance. Saddam, Al-Qaida & ISIS thought they could end it. Yet today 17M from across the world—w/2M Iranians—are amassing in Karbala. Their message: No tyrant will ever end the struggle for justice,” the Iranian minister said.
Arbaeen, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).
Each year, a huge crowd of Shiites flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
This year’s Arbaeen has fallen on Tuesday.
