TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi deplored recent anti-Tehran remarks by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and said Washington is plotting to wage a psychological war against the Islamic Republic.

In remarks released on Tuesday night, Qassemi dismissed as “deceitful” Pompeo’s claim that Iran’s economic growth has slowed down due to the “country’s presence and campaign against terrorism” in the region.

“Campaigning against terrorism in the region and safeguarding peace, stability and security of Iranian borders, which have neutralized the US officials’ anti-Iran plots and made them worried, are not a new policy and plan,” he stated.

Iran’s economy has seen an over 8 percent growth throughout the years of combatting terrorism in the region, the spokesman added.

“Using the tool of economic terrorism and cruel and illegal sanctions, the US officials are seeking to cover up their crimes against the Iranian people and find a pretext and prepare the ground for waging a psychological war… on the Iranian people,” Qassemi went on to say.

In recent years, the Middle East has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims but mostly against Muslims in the region.

Iraq and Syria have been among the countries gripped by terrorism.

Iran, a close ally of the two countries, has supported their legitimate governments in their campaign against foreign-backed militancy and terrorism.
