TEHRAN, Dec. 19 (Press Shia Agency) – In a meeting between Russia’s special envoy on Syria and Iran’s SNSC head in Tehran, the two sides stressed further cooperation with the Syrian government in settling the crisis in the war-torn country.
Russia’s special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, held talks with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani in Tehran on Sunday. Shamkhani also serves as coordinator of Iran’s political, military and security measures with Syria and Russia.
Shamkhani noted the Syrian army’s valuable achievements by liberating the strategic city of Aleppo, adding that the victory was due to initiatives by Iran, Russia, Syria and the resistance front.
“The liberation of Aleppo once again exposed to the world the policies of the West and their regional allies in creating and backing terrorism and their full political, media and military support for already defeated Takfiri terrorists,” Shamkhani added.
He voiced concern for the villages of Fuaa and Kafraya, which are under siege by militants, adding “while the Western-Hebrew-Arabic front have gathered all their political and media power to spread false information on the human losses in Aleppo, they remain completely silent on the need to evacuate the injured and elderly from Fuaa and Kafraya who have been under siege by terrorists for over three years.”
Shamkhani reminded the Russian envoy of the US and certain regional countries’ habit for breaking promises during the previous negotiations on Syria’s ceasefire, adding “all existing capacities must be gathered in service of strengthening humanitarian aid to the suffering people of Aleppo and to create secure conditions with all necessary services for the Syrian civilians.”
The Iranian official further called for closer cooperation between governments of Iran, Russia and Syria in the fight against terrorism, given the political and military complexities of the crisis in Syria and the need for adopting joint strategies for better management of the ever increasing consultations among the three countries’ officials.
The Russian envoy, for his part, discussed Russia’s policies to boost coordination with Iran and Syria in the military, political and security domains.
