TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari deplored US hostilities against the Iranian nation and said the idea that Tehran would agree to negotiate in the face of Washington’s pressures is nothing but an illusion.
Addressing a conference in the eastern province of South Khorasan on Tuesday, Major General Jafari pointed to US President Donald Trump’s remarks on Iran and said fulfilling his demands from the Islamic Republic is out of question.
“There is nothing in history to show that Iran will surrender to the US’ demands even in the face of heavy (US) economic pressure,” he said, adding that this is the biggest lesson for oppressed nations around the world.
The idea that the US can bring Iran back to the negotiating table by withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal- the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – is nothing but an illusion, the commander went on to say.
The remarks came as tensions between Iran and the US have escalated since Trump walked away from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in May and re-imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
US officials have repeatedly claimed that they aim to cut Iran’s oil exports to zero.
Following the US exit from the nuclear deal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
Trump on August 6 signed an executive order re-imposing many sanctions on Iran, three months after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.
He said the US policy is to levy “maximum economic pressure” on the country.
The second batch of US sanctions against the Islamic Republic took effect on November 4.
Iranian officials have repeatedly ruled out any possibility of renegotiating the JCPOA.
