TEHRAN (Press Shia) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force troops exercised various tactics to launch ground and aerial attacks on the hypothetical enemy’s offshore targets during a massive military drill in the Persian Gulf south of Iran.
The main phase of the offensive war game which kicked off near the Qeshm island on Saturday involved IRGC Ground Force commandos attacking the hypothetical enemy’s positions on an island.
The ground troops stormed the island with cover provided by armored vehicles and combat helicopters.
In another operation, the IRGC Ground Force artillery opened heavy fire to cover the attacking units by launching various shells using smart guns with pinpoint accuracy.
Meanwhile, the IRGC Ground Force combat engineers brought heavy destruction on the enemy’s positions by planting large booby trap bombs.
In an aerial operation, the IRGC Ground Force Airborne Unit’s Mil Mi-17 helicopters unloaded paratroopers and military equipment over the operation zone.
During the drill, the IRGC Ground Force divers exercised tactics to conquer the enemy’s coastal territories and paved the way for the commandos and the IRGC Ground Force Special Forces to take action.
Officials say anti-helicopter mines have been used in the exercise for the first time.
Such remote controlled mines can jump off the ground to a height of 150 to 180 meters before explosion and cause havoc for the hostile choppers with shrapnel scattering over a distance of 50 meters.
The final phase of the war game is attended by top commanders, including IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari.
