TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the ineffectiveness of the US sanctions against the Islamic Republic and said despite the enemy’s pressures, economic activities in the country are promising.
Speaking at a cabinet session in Tehran on Wednesday, Rouhani said his cabinet ministers have submitted good reports to him about their measures during recent cabinet meetings.
“In the last 9 months, the country’s trade balance with respect to non-oil exports has been positive with a $750 million trade surplus recorded,” he said.
This figure indicates that efforts by economic activists of Iran’s private and public sectors have been successful, the president added.
He also pointed to the US plots to block Iranian oil exports and said despite pressures imposed by the enemies, the country’s economic activities are promising.
The remarks came as tensions between Iran and the US have escalated since US President Donald Trump walked away from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in May and re-imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
US officials have repeatedly claimed that they aim to cut Iran’s oil exports to zero.
Following the US exit from the nuclear deal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
Trump on August 6 signed an executive order re-imposing many sanctions on Iran, three months after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.
He said the US policy is to levy “maximum economic pressure” on the country.
The second batch of US sanctions against the Islamic Republic took effect on November 4.
