TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (Press Shia) – Iran’s FM spokesman has slammed the UN General Assembly resolution on human rights violations as ‘unrealistic, politically-oriented, and biased’.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi reacted to the adoption of UN General Assembly’s 63rd resolution on Monday about human rights violation in the country, saying “according to the UN working procedures, all the resolutions adopted by the General Assembly are first approved in one of the Assembly’s six committees based on the related topics, then referred to the General Assembly for a second voting.”
He went on to add, “based on this procedure, the recent human rights resolution against Iran that was adopted Monday is not a new one. It had been approved in the third committee early November and was referred to General Assembly for a second voting.”
Ghasemi stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the adoption of such resolutions that are unrealistic, based on the double standards of Western governments, and follow a biased and politically-oriented agenda.
“Iran rejects the instrumental and political use of human rights by Western countries against independent nations in the world and deeply believes that such an approach will bring about no outcome other than the sacrificing of human rights as well as world’s public opinion’s distrust in international human rights mechanisms,” he said.
