TEHRAN, Dec. 23 (Press Shia) – Head of Parliament NSFPC Alaeddin Boroujerdi told reporters on Fri. that he believes the US was behind the assassination of Russian Ambassador Andrey Karlov in Turkey.
Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission (NSFPC) Alaeddin Boroujerdi deemed highly suspicious the Monday terror attack on Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, adding “I believe that the murder had been plotted by the Americans, because Turkey is a member of NATO and the close ties the country has developed with Russia is not in the interests of the United States.”
“It appears that the assassination was a warning to Turkey that the US wants the country to tread on the path that further reinforces the Americans’ national interests,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly the al-Nusra Front) claimed responsibility for the murder on Wednesday. When asked to give his comment about that, Boroujerdi maintained “this is what the terrorists have announced.”
The terror attack was carried out on Dec. 19 by a 22-year-old off-duty police officer named Mevlut Mert Altintas at the opening of the “Russia through Turks’ eyes” photo exhibition. The assailant was shot dead by police in a shoot-out. According to Turkish media, so far 13 people have been detained in the investigation over the assassination.
