TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and the speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, called for the implementation of past agreements between the two countries in a bid to boost bilateral cooperation.
Larijani and Volodin met in the Qatari capital of Doha on Sunday on the sidelines of a biannual session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Speaking at the meeting, Larijani said in order to make cooperation agreements between Iran and Russia operational, it is necessary to hold joint meetings with representatives of the executive branches of the two governments in attendance.
Volodin, for his part, described cooperation agreements between Tehran and Moscow as very important and strategic and said efforts should be made to make the cooperation deals operational.
Qatar is playing host to the 140th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its related meetings, including the 204th session of the Governing Council and the IPU’s Standing Committees from April 6 to 10.
The theme of this year’s general debate will be “Parliaments as platforms to enhance education for peace, security and the rule of law.”
The event is attended by parliamentary delegations from around 180 countries.
