TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Former deputy foreign minister Majid Takht Ravanchi was appointed Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced on Tuesday that Takht Ravanchi has been appointed to the new post at Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s suggestion and after ratification by the president’s office.
Takht Ravanchi, 60, is currently serving as the deputy director for political affairs at the president’s office.
He has the experience of working at the UN as Iran’s deputy ambassador, and used to serve as Iran’s ambassador to Switzerland, as a deputy foreign minister for European and American countries, and as a special assistant of Foreign Minister Zarif.
Takht Ravanchi was also a senior member of the Iranian team of negotiators in the marathon nuclear talks with the world powers that resulted in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
