TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iran attaches great significance to the security of Turkish people, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Wednesday, noting that Tehran is aware of Ankara’s concerns about terrorist attacks from the common border with Syria.
Asked about Turkey’s military deployment to the Syrian border and the east of the Euphrates River, Zarif announced at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara that Iran is aware of concerns of the “friends in Turkey” about such threats.
Iran reiterates that the best way to ensure the security of all regional countries is that the Syrian Army would be stationed along the common border with Turkey to make sure that the Turkish government and nation will not be facing any terrorist threat from inside Syria, he added.
Zarif underlined that Iran attaches great significance to the security and calm of Turkey, noting that Tehran and Ankara work in close security cooperation.
He further stressed that Iran will keep working with Turkey, Russia and the United Nations to contribute to peace and stability in Syria.
Zarif announced that the next meeting of the Astana Peace Process will be held at the Kazakh city of Nur-Sultan, expressing the hope that collective efforts would move the peace efforts forward one more stage.
Heading a ranking diplomatic delegation, Zarif arrived is in Turkey in a tour that took him earlier to Syria.
The top Iranian diplomat had meetings with top Syrian officials in Damascus, including President Bashar al-Assad.
