TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov are scheduled to hold a meeting in Moscow next week, Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced.
According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, the two top diplomats are going to discuss bilateral and regional issues at the upcoming meeting.
In a telephone conversation last week, Zarif and Lavrov discussed the process of peace in Syria and issues surrounding the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
Iran and Russia have remained close allies of Syria and supported its legitimate government in the face of terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS).
The Syrian army and its allies defeated Daesh in 2017 after years of war.
In the meantime, political efforts are underway to settle the outstanding conflicts in the Arab country.
Iran, Russia and Turkey have launched a peace initiative known as the Astana process to end the war in Syria.
