TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement Seyed Ammar al-Hakim underlined that his country will never serve as a platform for striking other states.
Iraq would never agree to act as a platform for attacks on others, Elnashra website quoted Hakim as saying after a meeting with Acting Assistant of US Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Michael Satterfield.
The cleric emphasized that Iraq has adopted an open door policy towards other countries and tries hard to maintain balanced ties on the basis of mutual interests.
Iraq seeks to strengthen regional stability and insists on neutrality and independence of decisions, Hakim stressed.
In February, Iraq’s Kata’ib Hezbollah (Hezbollah brigades) reaffirmed its support for Iran and Syria, making it clear that the military group will “cut off” the US hands if Washington ever decides to invade the two countries from Iraqi soil.
A year earlier, Iraq’s then-prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, made assurances that the Arab country would never allow the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) or others to use the Iraqi territory against Iran.
Iraq has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.
When Daesh (ISIL) terrorists entered Iraq in the summer of 2014, Iran was the first country to help Baghdad against the terror group.
Iran has always voiced support for Iraq’s unity, territorial integrity and prosperity.
