Press Shia Agency – Ayatollah Hoseyni-Bushehri said that Islam has given women an important position but Western culture seeks the collapse and destruction of the honour of families.

Press Shia Agency – In his Friday prayer sermon to a large and fervent crowd of believers in Qom’s Qods Prayer Hall, Ayatollah Seyyed Hashem Hoseyni-Bushehri commemorated the anniversary of the bloody uprising of the 19th of Dey (January 9, 1978) by the people of Qom and said, “If man strives and has determination, he can move toward permanence and stability.”

The representative of the people of Bushehr in the Assembly of Experts on 19 Dey, various groups, especially the clergy, participated in a massive protest and fought against the oppression by the Pahlavi regime. “In those days they didn’t know what would ultimately be the result of these uprisings and movements but now, we have seen that the events of 19 Dey led to the victory of the Islamic Revolution led by Imam Khomeini,” he said.

Ayatollah Hoseyni-Bushehri emphasized on the necessity of celebrating the “Ten Days of Insight” and said that just as the insightful and vigilant people of Iran protested against the insults against Imam Khomeini by the Pahlavi regime and the brought forth the beliefs of the uprising of 19 Dey (December 29), also on the 9th of Dey (December 29), the people protested the foreign-backed sedition which occurred after Iran’s 2009 presidential elections wherein some people insulted the Quran, mosques and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Khamenei] and came forth and brought the sedition to an end.

He added that today, in addition to Qom being to the base of the clergy, Shi’ism and the Islamic Seminaries, it is the centre and the place of origin of the Islamic Revolution. “My advice to the young people of Qom is that they should take the uprising of 19 Dey as a model. Today, our friends and enemies alike are watching our movements and the activities of the seminaries and our religious authorities,” he stressed.

The member of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom referred to the events of January 8, 1936, wherein Reza Shah Pahlavi issued a decree banning all veils abruptly, swiftly and forcefully and stressed that the enemies and their agents attempted to change the atmosphere and culture of Iran into that of the West through changing the Iranian peoples’ clothing.

“This is considered one of the plots of the arrogant powers,” he added.

Ayatollah Hoseyni-Bushehri added that following this decree, chadors where snatched from the women in the streets and alleys and due to this, many women didn’t go outside their homes for many years in order to preserve the sanctity of Muslim women.

In conclusion, the Friday prayer leader of Qom said, “In regard to these plots and problems, we must appreciate the Islamic Revolution and Islam. Islam has given women an important position but Western culture seeks the collapse and destruction of the honour of families. Bad veiling and abandoning the veil are a prelude to the breakdown of the family.”
