TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Maher al-Taher, a senior official at the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), said a recent conference on Israeli-Palestinian conflict held in the Bahraini capital of Manama was part of US attempts to normalize Zionist-Arab relations.
Speaking to Press Shia, Taher pointed to the so-called “Peace to Prosperity” conference held in Manama earlier this week to discuss what the US has described as the economic part of President Donald Trump’s “deal of the century”, and said the event was staged in a bid to eliminate the Palestinian issue.
“They (US and Israeli officials) are seeking to further the trend towards normalization of relations with Israel and the establishment of ties between some Arab countries and Israel,” he said.
“They chose Bahrain to host the gathering because it, in my opinion, has no authority and decisions are taken in the US not in Bahrain,” Taher went on to say.
The deal of century ploy, fronted by US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, has already been rejected by the Palestinians, who say the White House’s policies have been blatantly biased in favor of Israel.
Palestinians have cut off all contacts with the Trump administration since the president broke with decades of bipartisan policy to recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel in December 2017.
Bahrain hosted the conference on June 25 and 26 to encourage what it calls investment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip as part of Trump’s plan for Palestine. It was boycotted by Palestinian officials and business leaders.
