TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – France condemned a move by Israel to demolish Palestinian homes near East Jerusalem (al-Quds), saying the destruction set a “dangerous precedent” and violated international law.
“France condemns the demolition by the Israeli army of several buildings in the area of Wadi al Hummus, in the southeast of Jerusalem,” a statement from the French foreign ministry said, AFP reported.
“These demolitions have taken place for the first time in an area controlled by the Palestinian authority under the Oslo Accords. They represent a dangerous precedent, which poses a direct threat to the two-state solution,” it added.
Bulldozers accompanied by hundreds of Israeli police and soldiers moved into Sur Baher on Monday.
Residents told local media that 16 residential buildings with about 100 apartments were being demolished.
The demolition is the latest round of protracted wrangling over the future of al-Quds, home to more than 300,000 Palestinians.
