TEHRAN, Jan. 13 (Press Shia Agency) – Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, said on Friday that Iran will never allow reopening of the JCPOA file.
He made the remarks in response to the remarks of US President Trump’s pick for Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson on reviewing the case of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
“We have repeatedly stated the case will be reopened by no means; it’s not only our position but all members of 1+5,” Takht-Ravabchi noted.
Commeniting on the recent Joint Commission meeting in Vienna, he said the meeting was held upon a request by Iran to discuss the US extension of the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA); Tehran accused US of having failed to commit obligations under JCPOA.
The Joint Commission meeting was specifically convened in response to the concerns raised in the letter Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif addressed to High Representative Mogherini, as coordinator of the Joint Commission, on 16 December 2016, deputy FM underlined adding, “upon Iran’s request, the Joint Commission meeting was preceded by a Sanctions Working Group meeting which was attended at the level of experts.”
The American side promised at the meeting that ISA would hold no executive effects, Takht-Ravanchi said. “We have to wait and see what will happen in practice.”
All sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to continued full and effective implementation of the JCPOA, he said adding the Joint Commission reiterated the commitments by the participants to the continued lifting of sanctions.
