Earlier in the day the PMU said that its forces struck a drone flying over its headquarters in the province of Saladin, near Baghdad, Sputnik reported.

“The tactical group of Hashd al-Sha’abi’s 26th brigade deployed in the operational center in Diyala in the district of Kanaan managed to shoot down a drone, which was attempting to attack the Iraqi army,” the statement read.

In August, the PMU had warned the US-led international coalition, which operates in Iraq, for allowing Israeli drones to enter the region and carry out attacks targeting the group’s facilities.

Since the second half of July, a number of airstrikes have hit the group’s bases in Iraq.

On August 13, Fadhil Abu Ragheef, a security expert close to Iraqi intelligence services, told Russia’s RT Arabic news network there was information that the Israeli military was planning to launch airstrikes against the arms depots of Hashd al-Sha’abi forces.
