TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (Press Shia Agency) – Deputy-FM for Legal and International Affairs has said Muslim world will never allow discriminatory conduct against Muslims anywhere in the world.
Mr. Abbas Araghchi who was speaking in a forum to address anti-Muslim hatred and discrimination held by Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday, severly criticized Burmese government to its neglect of the cruelty targeting the Muslim minority in Rohingya province committed by the majority Buddhist extremists.
“The OIC decided to address the discrimination and systematic hate-mongering against the Muslim minority local people who has been living for centuries, but Burmese junta government had stripped them of their Burmese nationality and they had been asked to leave the country and their homes,” he emphasized.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran demands that the Rohingya Muslims’ situation be addressed immediately; we believe the Muslim-Buddhist conflict is a purely religious one but the major victim of this hatred had been Muslims, with Buddhists having the support of the government who had been acted discriminatingly against Muslim minority.”
Araghchi warned that Muslim world would not allow such cruelties against its fellow co-religionists; “we demand that Burmese government should intervene according to justice and should protect Muslim lives in the province; humanitarian aid should be allowed to the province for suppressed and targeted Muslims; the government has an inherent duty of protecting citizens and should address systematic crimes committed during several years against Muslims,” he emphasized.
Ironically, Burmese government headed by Aung San Suu Kyi, the champion of human rights and whom had been lionized by European countries and had won their admiration for perseverance in fighting the military junta ruling Burma almost exclusively for decades, had balked at the criticism that her government had been totally neglecting the Muslim situation in the province, just saying that “there’s a Burmese saying: You have to make big problems small and small problems disappear.”
