TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (Press Shia Agency) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi and British Minister for Middle East and North African Affairs Tobias Ellwood met on Thursday in Tehran.
“Progress in Tehran-London relations will be made through reciprocal respect and mutual interests,” said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, on Thursday, while receiving British Minister for Middle East and North African Affairs Tobias Ellwood in Tehran. According to Iran’s foreign ministry, Mr. Ravanchi has urged his British counterpart to follow the full implementation of the commitments promised in the JCPOA by all the signatories.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, shortened as JCPOA, was signed by the representatives of Iran, the USA, Russia, China, Germany, France, the UK, and the European Union on July 14, 2015, in Vienna and it was put fully into effect in January 2016.
Criticizing some recent remarks against Iran made by some British officials, Takht-Ravanchi described such stances in contrast with the developing trend of bilateral relations in terms of the former agreements.
Mr. Ellwood, for his part, reassured that the UK is after developing bilateral ties with Tehran and committed to the full implementation of the JCPOA. He asserted that his respective country is putting efforts on clearing the barriers for expansion of bilateral ties and resolving the misunderstandings.
The two sides also voiced hope for the necessary and fit ground for broadening economic relations in all areas. They agreed to mull over easing consular and visa issuance issues on their next meeting in London.
