TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Kuwait’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran to protest at a meeting between a number of Kuwaiti officials and the representative of a terrorist and separatist group as well as an anti-Iran gathering held in the Arab country.
In the Saturday meeting, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s director general for Persian Gulf affairs condemned Kuwait’s move, stressing the need for mutual respect in bilateral relations.
“Such acts are an obvious interference in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, violate the principle of good neighborliness and friendly statements by Kuwaiti authorities, and are contrary to the principle of respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Iran,” the Iranian diplomat said, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website.
The Foreign Ministry did not provide any more details about the group concerned or about the Kuwaiti officials who had met the group’s representative.
According to Press TV, the speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, Marzouq al-Ghanim, has reportedly met with a member of the al-Ahwaziya terrorist group on the sidelines of a parliamentary conference calling for the breakaway of the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz from the country.
