TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson denounced the German government’s support for the US’ brutal assassination of IRGC Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani, saying such stances reveal Berlin’s ignorance of the realities on the ground in the region.
In a statement on Friday, Seyed Abbas Mousavi condemned the supportive positions attributed to the German government regarding the US assassination of General Soleimani.
“Such comments indicate Berlin is not aware of realities on the ground in the region, and will, intentionally or unintentionally, align this country (Germany) with the United States’ state terrorism,” the spokesman added.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran regards the German government’s stances in support of brutal and unilateral US actions which are against international law as complicity in these actions, and Iran reminds the German government of General Soleimani’s key role in fighting the terrorism of Daesh, whose continued existence would have endangered the lives of countless number of people even in Europe,” Mousavi said, according to the Foreign Ministry’s official website.
His comments came after a German government spokeswoman said on Friday that the US strike against General Soleimani was a reaction to military provocations by Iran.
“The American action was a reaction to a series of military provocations for which Iran is responsible,” Ulrike Demmer said during a regular government news conference.
“We also see with great concern Iran’s activities in the region. We stand before a dangerous escalation,” she said, adding that Germany would work to de-escalate the situation.
An American drone attack, carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump, killed Major General Soleimani, the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi, and a number of their entourage near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.
