TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis is slated to pay an official visit to Iran later on Sunday to hold talks with senior officials of the Islamic Republic on the latest developments in the region and the world, local media said.
A high-level government delegation headed by Khamis will arrive in Tehran on Sunday to exchange views about Iran-Syria relations as well as the latest developments in international and regional arenas, the Arabic-language al-Watan reported.
The delegation will also include a deputy prime minister, Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, and Defense Minister General Ali Abdullah Ayyoub.
Diplomatic sources in Damascus said the trip is very important because it is followed by successive developments in the region.
The visit to Tehran comes amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf following the US assassination of top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad and Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes at US targets in Iraq.
