TEHRAN (Press Shia) – The head of one of Canada’s biggest food companies took to Twitter to blast the US for the latest developments in the Middle East after Iran accidentally shot down a passenger jet.
Michael McCain, chief executive officer of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., said the wife and 11-year-old son of a colleague were among the Canadians killed.
“I’m Michael McCain, CEO of Maple Leaf Foods, and these are personal reflections. I am very angry, and time isn’t making me less angry. A MLF colleague of mine lost his wife and family this week to a needless, irresponsible series of events in Iran…,” he tweeted.
“A narcissist in Washington tears world accomplishments apart; destabilizes region,” McCain said, without identifying US President Donald Trump by name.
“US government leaders unconstrained by checks/balances, concocted an ill-conceived plan to divert focus from political woes.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declined to comment when asked if US escalation in the region led to the tragedy.
The victims of Wednesday’s crash included 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, 10 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans, and three British nationals.
All 179 people on board the Boeing 737, including nine crew, were killed when the jetliner crashed shortly after takeoff from the airport on Wednesday morning.
The plane operated by Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) was bound for Kiev.
The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces announced on Saturday that the country’s air defense unintentionally shot down the Ukrainian passenger plane on January 8 amid the highest level of readiness because of a possible military attack by the US.
In a statement, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said the incident took place following Iranian missile strikes on a military base of the criminal US regime in Iraq and amid a possible threat of hostile military actions.
