NEW YORK, Jan. 29 (Press Shia Agency) – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) urged Saturday the US government to keep its programs to receive such vulnerable people.
In a joint statement, given the President Donald Trump’s executive decision to freeze the refugee entry for four months, the organizations said that in the current world scenario, aid to those forced to leave their countries is more important than ever.
According to the UN, more than 60 million people have left their homes to escape from bloody conflicts, such as Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and Iraq.
“The US resettlement program is one of the most important at world level. Its traditional refugee welcoming policy has created a win-win situation for all”, IOM and UNHCR said in the statement issued here.
They also reiterated that the contribution made by refugees and immigrants to their new homes around the world has been extremely positive.
Trump is criticized for his executive measures regarding the refugee entry to the United States, which is said to be firstly aimed at halting the arrival of Muslims to the country.
