TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is planning a European tour, a report said.
Diplomatic sources say arrangements are being made for the foreign minister’s visit, which will commence as early as next week, Japan’s NHK reported.
Currently, Zarif plans to visit a number of European countries, such as Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
In 2018, the US unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal struck between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council as well as Germany and resumed its sanctions on Iran.
In August, the US sent a letter to the UN Security Council requesting to initiate the “snapback” mechanism, which allows a participant to the JCPOA to seek the reimposition against Iran of the multilateral sanctions lifted in 2015 in accordance with resolution 2231, adopted by the UN Security Council.
Through Zarif’s visits, Iran is likely aiming to boost ties with European countries, with the goal of blocking the US initiative.
