TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – US Air Force F-16 fighter jets intercepted an unauthorized aircraft that was flying in a restricted area near a Trump campaign rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, Wednesday afternoon, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said.
An Air Force jet was scrambled above Donald Trump’s rally in Arizona on Wednesday, after an unannounced plane flew overhead.
The F-16 attempted to make contact, and the aircraft initially ignored the jets.
The fighter plane then released flares, prompting the intruding aircraft to establish radio communication. It was then escorted out of the area.
NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, said that a F-16 was dispatched to investigate.
‘At approx. 1400 MDT, NORAD F-16 aircraft investigated a general aviation aircraft that was not in communication with ATC and entered the Temporary Flight Restriction area surrounding Bullhead City, AZ without proper clearance,’ they tweeted.
‘The aircraft was escorted out of the restricted area by the NORAD aircraft without further incident.’
As the sound of fighter jets rumbled overhead, those attending the rally were unaware as to what was going on in the skies.
Trump remarked that the planes were ‘four days old’ because he’d gotten more funding for the Pentagon.
Then, as he continued to pause for the booming noise, he noted: ‘I love that sound’.
It remains unclear who was flying the aircraft.
