TEHRAN, Feb. 18 (Press Shia) – Foreign Ministry spokesperson has said human rights resolution draft follows an old trend which had sought to mount pressure on Iran.
Mr. Bahram Ghasemi was officially responding to Swedish reported preparing of a human rights resolution draft against Iran in the UN. Last week, a Swedish delegation headed by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven visited Tehran, with the majority of its members as women. They complied with the dress code of the Islamic Republic of Iran upon arriving at the airport. However, Swedish media objected the obediance by the delegation of the dress code as hypocrisy of a cabinet which introduces itself as the first feminist cabinet in the world.
On Friday, the Swedish UN envoy said her government was introoducing a resolution demanding expansion of mission of UN special rapporteur on human rights in Iran for another year; the move was condemned by Mr. Ghasemi who believed that the resolutions had been part of European conduct in the past and was not in any rate relevant to Tehran visit by Swedish prime minister.
“This is a tradition that the media propaganda against Iran raises, time and again, allegations, unfounded as they are, to mount pressure on Iran; it is rooted in Iranophobia systematically launched and continued by western powers along with the Zionist regime,” Ghasemi emphasized. “The media should judge and report based on authentic information if they are to be impartial in journalistic reporting; we condemn any resolution against Iran on human rights grounds and believe it is unfair, inaccurate, and ignores the realities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Ghasemi also said that the same powers had been on ease with violations of human rights in Syria, Yemen, and Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East; “their allies are despotic regimes ruling with iron fist and systematically abusing rights of their citizens in conditions where there is no parliament, elections, and rulers have support of their western patrons,” he concluded.
