TEHRAN, Feb. 24 (Press Shia Agency) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Zarif while inviting all neighboring countries to collaborate with Iran on environmental projects, said the move is not only an environmental need but also a security imperative.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remark during the opening of the 16th International Environmental Exhibition in Tehran, adding “we are currently in a very special international situation which needs more than anything a mutual understanding on challenges, interests, threats and the future of humanity.”
He went on to add, “no issue such as the environment has had such a great role in this mutual understanding, and no other issue but the environment has required this great amount of cooperation, consultation, exchange of views and collaboration on an international level.”
Zarif stressed the need for international cooperation in various conventions regarding the environment, adding “all countries must provide the necessary conditions for the realization of green economy and sustainable development.”
“Today, we need to call upon the private sector and knowledge-based companies operating overseas to embark on joint cooperation for building the future for our children who will inherit the environment from our generation,” he said.
“I call upon all neighboring countries to commence a joint plan of action to counter threats such as terrorism, particularly ISIL, by intensifying collective and reassuring efforts,” Zarif said.
The 16th Iran International Environment Exhibition kicked off today and will last until 27 Feb. 2017 in Tehran International Permanent Fairground, coinciding with the 9th edition of Iran International Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Exhibition.
