NEW YORK, Mar. 16 (Press Shia Agency) – Iran’s permanent representative envoy to the UN has urged global coordination to address occupationism as the major roots of human trafficking.
Gholamali Khoshroo, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations addressed the Security Council Open Debate of the UN Security Council on Human Trafficking in Conflicts, Wednesday evening, where he urged the UN to address persisting problem of occupationism; “occupation, internecine strife, and genocide are the major contributing factor of human trafficking; modern slavery, sexual slavery, and other sorts of slavery are to be blamed on the issue; occupation has created such pressing issues through increasing the number of refugees seeking shelter and security out of war, where human traffickers come to the fore to make their profits out of the plight and suffering of others,” Khoshroo lamented.
“It is imperative that the UN seriously address the roots themselves and not the effects of the phenomena; no scheme would succeed in addressing the effects without addressing the roots; the critical human conditions in the Middle East and North Africa have given rise to resurgence of fundamentalist terrorists which had totally discredited the local governments, contributing to the rise of ISIL and other petty extremist groups,” he continued in his address. “Such groups target and prosecute ethnic and religious minorities and especially children and women which amounts to crime against humanity and war crimes.”
Khoshroo also provided solutions and remedies; “respecting the national sovereignty of all countries according to the UN charters and then to respect rights of refugees, and ending violence and provocative acts against ethnic and religious minorities, and hatred against immigrants; we urge implementation of a UN Action Plan on Human Trafficking fully and to the full effect,” he concluded.
